Barbra started her Doctoral studies in Political Science in the fall of 2017, after completing a MA in Political Science at Carleton University, and a BA (Hons) in French with a minor in English at the University of Zimbabwe. Her areas of interest are Comparative Politics and International Relations. Barbra’s research seeks to examine the phenomenon of global celebrity philanthropy. In recent times there has been a rise in celebrities’ involvement in humanitarian work through donating their money and their time, while at the same time bringing attention to poverty, disease and other disasters around the world, especially in developing countries. Working under the supervision of Dr Fiona Robinson, Barbra’s research seeks to engage in a critical analysis of celebrity philanthropy and the politics of development.
Prior to graduate studies Barbra worked as a foreign service officer. She has vast experience in bilateral and multilateral diplomacy, having worked as a diplomat in various countries and at the United Nations Office in Vienna.
