The undergraduate Religion program at Carleton offers studies leading to an undergraduate B.A. degree in Religion, in the form of either a three-year General or a four-year Honours degree. For further information on these programs, please refer to the Undergraduate Calendar.
The study of Religion at Carleton
At Carleton the study of Religion exposes our students to a thoughtful and comparative analysis of answers which religions make to issues, such as the sense of identity, the meaning of existence, or the basis for political and ethical commitments. It introduces them to the role such responses, varied and complex as they are, have played and still play in human affairs.
As such, the study of Religion helps prepare students to be active citizens in a diverse democracy like Canada. It also nurtures in students a respect for the complex identities of others, their histories and their cultures.
Besides the B.A. degree, the program also offers three Minors which students can combine with a Major. These are Minors in Religion, in Jewish Studies, and in Muslim Studies.
